History
The youngest of six children of Comte Gérald and Comtesse Victoire De La Fontaine, Geneviève never stood to inherit lands or titles. Her choices were few, join the Chantry, or be married off to an eligible bachelor. So of course when she was old enough to be aware of the situation, Geneviève, or Evie to friends and family, chose a different path altogether. She wanted to be a Chevalier, having been raised on stories of the great Aveline and the female Chevaliers that came after. Much to the alarm of Comtess De La Fontaine, of course. Victoire tried several times throughout Evie's life to discourage her, introduce her to nice boys who might steal her heart and put this Chevalier madness to it's end.
When Evie came of age, her parents decided to relent and allow her to attend to the training to become a Chevalier, expecting that it would be far too difficult for a girl who had grown up in the relative comforts the life of an Orlesian architect provided.
They wholly underestimated their daughter's conviction, and while she did not finish her training at the top of the class, it was close enough that the actual top wasn't sure if he'd won her out due to skill or just because she was shorter than him.
She did participate in the graduation ritual of going drunk into the alienage to slay any elf out after curfew, but as she was there slightly under duress she not only fake drank, she gave the elf they ran across a non-lethal injury and knocked him down, instructing him to stay down until they were gone. Her fellow Chevalier-in-training were so drunk they didn't realize the elf was still breathing when they left him in the dirt, and still talk about how savage De La Fontaine jumped on him with her knife before anyone else had a chance to react.
Much to her mother's relief, Evie spent the next few years as a guard in the palace rather than out in the muck with the rank and file. In this time Comtesse De La Fontaine sent several suitors to her daughter, desperately trying anything she could to keep from Evie ever engaging in any actual fighting. All her machinations were for naught, and once things between Grand Duke Gaspard and the Empress came to a head, Evie was reassigned, taking a position with the Chevaliers fighting in the Exalted Plains.
She was badly wounded during the fighting, and though she wanted to remain she was not given a choice and was escorted back to Val Royeaux to be attended by proper healers. Once she was given the clear to return to active duty she wished to return to the Exalted Plains with her company, but was instead ordered to travel to Skyhold as an emissary to aid the Inquisition and perhaps garner further support for the cause in Orlais at the same time. She suspects her parents turned the ear of her commander, but as a good soldier, she does what she is told.
Personality
Geneviève is a picture of a model Chevalier. She holds honor and country above all things, and does not allow herself to be bought or borrowed or stolen by promises of wealth in the face of injustices. She keeps in mind the ideals of being a true Chevalier at all times, and how she can best serve her Empress. She can be stubborn in some respects, not satisfied being a simple decoration in the background of things, she dreamed of honor like that of Aveline when she was a child, and she wishes to achieve it. In that she will often not let things go, especially when she feels like she's right in the situation. If she's ordered by her commander otherwise she will do what she's told, but likely still grumble about it.
Outside of her Chevalier training, she does have the bearing of someone raised in a privileged household. She knows how to carry herself like a lady and address people as such, she has some formed biases around elves and magic, although both are things she's tried to overcome (she's like your politely racist grandmother).
She is kind, if a bit forceful at times. She has a consistent way of carrying herself, with the strength that the Chevalier training awarded her. When she disagrees with someone it is with a quiet intensity, rather than raised voice. It's rare that she will raise her voice at all, and overall seems to have a rather even temper.
She does have an odd sense of wonder about her at times, as she joined the Chevaliers not only to serve her country and avoid being paired off with someone she has little affection for, but to see more than just the inside of manors and palaces. She enjoys a good adventure, and that little girl who used to play with the the stablehand with stick swords often comes out when discovering something new. She keeps herself reeled in, but the true Evie is a bright girl, ready to prove herself to her country, and eager to find exciting new things.
Opinions & Affiliations
While she does think it's terrible the conditions in which elves are faced, she is from noble stock and part of the mentality that they obviously did it to themselves. She thinks Dalish are wild and unrefined as well as dangerous, and mages belong in Circles with templars to keep them in line.
She is in every part a Loyalist, faithful to Empress Celene and if anyone were to ask for her opinion on the Civil War she would vehemently condemn Duke Gaspard for his actions. a Chevalier is supposed to have honor, and he is acting wholly without it, in her opinion.
As far as the Chant is concerned, she is not as devout as some other recruits, her family attended the Chantry regularly enough to keep up appearances, but they were very casual Andrastians, and more in it for the poetic sense than actual core beliefs. She believes in the Maker, and will pray when appropriate, but overall has more faith in her steel than in the almighty.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Evie's Chevalier training makes sure her strengths are diverse. She is stronger than she looks, with a great deal of endurance, though not as much as she previously had due to she is still recovering somewhat from her injuries in the Exalted Plains. She is also trained with a variety of weapons, though she personally favors the sword and shield. She can adapt in a pinch, and despite wearing heavy armor she is quite agile.
Many of her weaknesses lie in personal failings, her stubbornness in regards to her postings as well as her refusal (and frustration with her mother) to pick a man to be married off to. If she's annoyed about a letter from her family, she is distracted, and distraction can mean life or death in an active battlefield. She's also still recovering from injuries sustained during fighting with Duke Gaspard's men, a cut to her right shoulder and a run-through with a spear sustained to the right side of her abdomen. As a result her shield-arm isn't as strong as it used to be (she is left-handed), which makes holding a heavy shield high all the more difficult.

She is not the first Chevalier to arrive in Skyhold. She's not even the only one to arrive this day, accompanied by two others, although they are only providing an escort before they will return to the war. Geneviève tries not to look at her brothers in arms with contempt as they ride over the bridge into Skyhold proper, thinking that they would be going where she would rather. Most of the journey here she had been trying to convince Ser Brice he'd be better suited to the task, as his family had a higher noble standing than hers. Alas the arguments had mostly fallen to laughter, or the occasional admonishment. She is, after all, carrying out a mission of some import.
Dismounting from her horse in the courtyard she looks around, wrinkling her nose despite herself.
"People have been living here?" Though it is likely in a better state than it was when first found, she comes from a family of artists and architects. Her father has designed and redesigned some of the finest villas in Orlais. That people have been calling this place home for the past year? She can only fathom it because the proof is right before her eyes. "Andraste guide me," she mutters, shaking her head and beginning to relieve Calixte of his burden.

Bonjour, this is Dame Geneviève De La Fontaine speaking to you now through this... unusual crystal. Qui semble être la magie du sang... But that is of little matter. I have a question, one I hope that those listening now can assist me with rapidement.
How does one go about discouraging a bear from climbing a tree one is currently lodged in? Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
